The protection of Fundamental Rights in European Law. The case law of European Court of Justice and European Court of Human Rights.
The first UNICRI and Ce.A.S. Summer School on Fundamental Rights will take place in Pomezia (RM) from the 1st to the 7th July 2009. The Summer School, organized by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and Centro Alti Studi per la Lotta al Terrorismo e alla Violenza Politica (Ce.A.S.) has been organized with “La Sapienza” Universitary Pole of Pomezia. The first edition of the International Summer School Fundamental Rights - The protection of Fundamental Rights in European Law.

The case law of European Court of Justice and European Court of Human Rights is aimed at providing students and young professionals with a comprehensive understanding and detailed perspective of economic, legal and social aspects related to fundamental rights in European Law. Understanding the history and context of human rights protection in the European Law to appreciate what effect the Charter of Fundamental Rights is likely to have. Fundamental rights which are treated as an integral part of EU law can be used to challenge the validity of European Union legislation or the actions of the EU institutions. The Summer School aims to enhance the knowledge of this topic and of the best practices involved in dealing with it. The presence in Pomezia of “La Sapienza” Universitary Pole and UNICRI Office, devoted to training, research, and technical assistance lend an international and multidisciplinary approach and a necessary added value to the School, giving a unique dimension to the understanding of the phenomenon. The programme of the International Summer School is designed as an intensive workshop. In an international and stimulating environment, the school offers the possibility of interacting intensively with highly recognised international experts on the highly debated topic of the protection of fundamental rights in European Law. The course will cover issues such as European Treaties and EC regulations; The European Court of Justice and the EU normative system of protection of fundamental rights; The European Convention of Human Rights; The European Court of Human Rights and the National Courts; The introduction of minimum standard of protection of fundamental rights in criminal trials; Social Rights: Flexicurity and Basic Income. The roster of lecturers will be comprised of international experts, University Professors and Officials from European Institutions. |
