The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and Centre for Advanced Studies on Terrorism and Political Violence (Ce.A.S.) will promote the first Short Course in Europe on Hologrammatic Terrorism in cooperation with the University of Rome – Sapienza. The course will take place in the Scientific Park – University Campus “Selva dei Pini”, Pomezia (Rome). In a society that is driven by communication, it is common that an imbalance particularly favourable to terrorism is real. Even a “little” terrorist attack produces, via the media, a proliferation of chaotic images. This is the “hologram of terror” which lives in the cathode tube and feeds itself by images that it produces. For this reason, concentrating on the terrorist attack’s authors may not be enough. During and after an attack, it is more useful to fight the impacts of this chaotic imagery. It is compulsory to study this new kind of terrorism, which bases it strength on the effects of a hologram, particularly, the capability of appearing without actually being. New tools of analysis and a new hindering logic are crucial to face and deeply understand this new form of terrorism. The Hologrammatic Terrorism curriculum is aimed at providing students and researchers with a comprehensive understanding and detailed perspective of sociological, criminological and technical aspects related to the use and exploitation of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) by terrorist groups. In this framework, understanding the technical tools and techniques used for communication, propaganda, proselytism, training and fund-raising is essential. The programme of the Short Course is designed as an intensive course composed of lectures and workshops giving the students the possibility to interact and debate with international experts working on the most highly debated topics in the field of Hologrammatic Terrorism. The roster of lecturers will include of international experts, academics and officers from international / national institutions (Universities).
